  Agricultural Extension Profile  
  The Department of Agricultural Extension, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore was started in 1965 to impart teaching to under graduate students in agriculture. Dr.K.A.Jalihal was the first Head of the Department. The discipline grow vertically and horizontally then onwards and this growth necessitated the starting of Masters and Doctoral programmes during the year 1966-67 and 1974-75 respectively. As on now the department has trained 383 Masters and 77 Ph.D Degree holders in Agricultural Extension. Realizing the importance of extension education discipline in rural development, the Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative (IFFCO) instituted a professional chair in the department during 1981.  
  Department Activities  
 
  • Teaching: The department is engaged in teaching under-graduate students admitted to Bachelor Degree programme like, B.Sc. in Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation and B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering and Post-graduate students advised to Master and Doctoral Degree programmes in Agricultural Extension.
  • Training: The faculty members of the Department involved in designing and organizing programmes for officers of the Karnataka State Development Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Forestry etc.
 
  Research Function  
  Research in Extension is conducted through postgraduate as well as individual staff research projects funded by the University and various other organizations. The faculty working in the teaching department is involved in conducting of research projects. It is feather in the cap that faculty is currently operating many international and national funded projects.
