The Agricultural College, Hassan, was inaugurated by Shri.H.D.Devegowda, the then Prime Minister of India on 23rd August,
1996. From 1996 to 2005, it was functioning at GKVK, Bangalore and was shifted to its present new campus in the year 2006. The college has been accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
Two more new degree programmes viz., B.Sc.(Ag.Biotech) & B.Tech (Food Science) have been added from Academic Year 2007-08.
The college campus has 184.25 acres of land area in addition to 112 acres
of adjacent Agricultural Research Station, Madenur.
The main building of the college consisting of the laboratories, classrooms, examination hall, seminar room, museum and offices is a land mark on the highway, with its visibility upto several Kms distance on either side. The campus has well built hostels for about 140 boys and 50 girls at present.
Sports stadium and other sports fields are located on an area of nearly 30 acres.
A library with an initial collection of 4000 accessions is functioning for 12 hours a day.
Separate building for auditorium, library, indoor stadium, sports pavilion and staff quarters are coming up fast.
Nearly 120 acres of land will be brought under cultivation and several field crops and horticultural crops have been included in the master plan.
Staff:
The college campus will have 84 well qualified teachers and 178 service personnel very soon.
Library:
At present the library has got a collection of 5000 latest books. The target is to acquire 5000 more books in one or two years.
Sports:
Facilities will be available for most of the outdoor and indoor sports.
Hostel:
Hostel facility is available for 140 boys and 50 girls at present. Will be extended to accommodate 400 boys and 250 girls soon.
College Awards/Achievements:
The first batch of 43 students have recorded cent per cent pass during I Semester, with class average grade point of 8.03/10.00. Mr.Abhishek Kumar secured the highest Grade Point Average of 9.07. One of our students, Kum.G.J.Pavitra represented University in All India Inter Agricultural University Sports and Games meet held at Ludhiyana and won second prize in Table Tennis.
