The University Library came into existence during the year 1966-67.
From its intial collection of 26,000 volumes of books and bound periodicals,
it has now grown to 1,69,835 volumes. The University Library moved into its own functional building at GKVK in the year 1976.

The University Library is kept open for 12 hours on working days and for limited hours
on Saturday and Sundays. Students and staff of the University can become the members of the Library, whereas bonafide outsiders who come with
the introductory letters from their institutions/ ID card provided by our University Library are permitted for consultation only. |

The Library has created a database of Books, Journals, Theses, Reports and Reference
sources and it’s made available through ‘OPAC’. The library has also created databases of current periodicals,
CD’s, on-line Journals subscribed and digitized database of Theses available in the Library. |

The Internet Services has been provided at the GKVK library for the Staff and P.G.
Students. Eleven Electronics Journals are also subscribed by the University Library . These e-journals can also be
accessed at the GKVK Library, Hebbal campus Library and all the colleges and Departments at the GKVK and Hebbal campuses. |

- University Library has subscribed several Online Journals, Offline Databases,
e-books, e-Journals for the year 2008. In addition to this ICAR under NAIP Programme is providing access to 2100 full text journals related to the field of Agriculture and allied subjects.
- On-line Public Access Catalogues (OPAC) : - Library has created the database of Books, Journals,
Theses, Reports and other sources of Information available in the Library. Users can access the OPAC through the Internet.
- Book Borrowing Facilities: - All house keeping activities including circulation and bar-coded. All the members of the
University Library are issued with Electronic and Bar-coded membership card with Photograph. Books are issued
to user through computer aided system and the user can see his / her status of membership and also his / her account on–line.
Users can make on-line enquiries and also make reservation of books that are already issued and the user will be intimated by e-mail after the book is received in the Library.
- Database of Current Periodicals: - In order to provide up to date and latest Scientific information to the users,
the Library is getting 394 Periodicals (print) including 56 Foreign periodicals.
- E- Journals: - Library has subscribed to Springer Agriculture package of E-Journals available ‘on-line’
for the benefit of its users. Only the members of the Library can access these journals through LAN.
- CD-ROM Databases:- The University Library has added several CD-ROM Databases.
The important CD-ROM Databases are: -
- CAB – CD ROM - 1990 - 2006
- Horticulture CD ROM - 1973 - 2000
- Veterinary CD-ROM - 1973 - 2000
- AGRIS CD – ROM - 1975 - 2000
- NUCSI etc.
- Theses Database: - M.Sc, Ph.D theses available in the Library are included in the
OPAC. However, some theses abstracts are digitized and given access to the users through the LAN.
- On-line Current awareness Service: - New books, Journals, Theses Reports, and Other information sources added to the University Library will be intimated
to the UAS Scientists and Teachers through the e-mail and these can also be accessed through the UAS Website.

Institutes CD’s are added for the benefit of users of the Library.

Text Book Bank General & SC / ST Book Bank:-
To cater to the increased demand for prescribed Textbook, a separate Book Bank for General category of Students
and SC/ST students have been created.Students are provided with two textbooks per student, per semester.
- Inter Library loan: - Publications that are not available in the Library and are requested by users
can be obtained on loan from other Institutes, likewise publication will also be lent out on a reciprocal basis to other Institutes.
- Reprographic Service: -
Xerox / Photocopying service is made available in the Library at a nominal cost.
- Reference Service: -Library Professionals are pleased to help the users in locating and disseminating information from the available sources in the Library.
- Internet Service: -
Internet service is available for all categories of users of the Library.
- User Education: -
As a part of the Dissemination of Information the Library professionals in the Library will be pleased to explain in detail the following: -
- Varieties of Information sources available in the Library of different subjects in Agriculture and in allied subjects.
- The Value and Importance of Information and how to access the Information through various Information sources and explain the organization of information sources in the Library.
- Introducing Rare & valuable sources of information available in the Library and also secondary sources of information i.e., Abstracting and Indexing journals and also tertiary sources of information i.e., Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Bibliographies etc.
- Further, explain to the students how to collect the required information from the above sources to find out research topics, methodology for research and also preparation for seminars.
- Further, explain how to access required Information through e-journals, CD-ROM, Internet and open access journals.
This service is provided to under graduate and postgraduate students as and when required, as part of their curriculum with assistance by the concerned Teachers in the subject.
