Realizing the need for quality human resource development in the field of Horticulture, Government of Karnataka
permitted the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore to start a degree programme in Horticulture at Bangalore.
It was first of its kind in this country. Later on keeping view on the rural area, undergraduate degree programme in
Horticulture was shifted to Mudigere, Chikmagalur district by establishing College of Horticulture during 1991.

Objectives:
To strengthen/improve the degree programme in Horticulture by implementing the national curriculum.
Providing up to date knowledge in the field of Horticulture and related disciplines.
To create a congenial environment for the students to develop leadership qualities and to inculcate competing spirit among them.
To organize specialized training programmes and to provide consultancy to farmers in the field of Horticulture.
Facilities:
The college building has four classrooms and ten well equipped laboratories that are being used by different departments.
The computer laboratory and ARIS Cell are facilitated with sufficient number of computers, printers, scanners and internet with UPS support.
The students as well as staff are utilizing these facilities.
Library:
The college has good library facility with 8212 text books, 1622 back volumes, 22 journals, several CD ROM, CD’s on cultivation practices, technical and popular periodicals. Besides these, there is a separate book bank for SC/ST students having 584 books.
Hostel:
The college has hostels for boys and girls having good accommodation and food facilities. Boy’s hostel is located in the college campus and girl’s hostel ZARS campus.
Field facilities/Crop Museums:
The instructional farms/crop museums on different horticultural crops viz., fruit crops, plantation and spice crops, vegetable crops, floriculture and landscape gardening are maintained in the campus for practical teaching. The students are also taking to Zonal Agricultural Research Station existing in the campus for practical teaching purpose on various horticultural crops. At present, college is having an area of 46.7ha besides the area attached from the Zonal Agricultural Research Station.
