AICRP Scheme/Unit : Establishment of Biofuel Park at
Location : Madenur, Hassan
Year of Start: May 2007
Mandate:

·         Establish scope for cultivation of Biofuel plants in the farmers field and in wastelands

·         Investigation of agronomic characters as an associate crop in the farmers field and in wastelands

·         Breeding program and provenance trial and develop model plantation

·         To develop suitable silviculture practices for optimized biomass production and seed yield

·         Develop / promote technology for oil expelling and trans-esterification

·         Bio diesel / ethanol production on commercial scale and marketing strategies

·        Use of byproducts for improvement of soil and environment
Research Programmes:

v  Development of suitable agroforestry technologies with biofuel species

v  Identification of high yielding with high oil content plus trees and use for grafting

v  Design and Develop different oil expelling and trans-esterification machinery

v  Use of biofuel by-products in crop production and crop protection

v  Recognised centre by World agro forest organisation (WFO) in the field of Biofuels
Facilities Available:

v  Transeterification unit for the production of biodiesel

v  Oil expelling unit for expelling oil and de-oiled cakes

v  Nursery for the production of Quality seedlings of Biofuel species

 
Other Activities:

v  Need based supply of bio-diesel

v  Supply of non edible oils like honge, hippe and neem for farmers

v  Formation of farmers producer organization for biofuels in Channarayapatna Taluk.

v  Production and supply of quality biofuel seedlings for planting in waste land, Avenue planting, School and college premises.

v  Research on importance of oil cakes in Maize and Ragi crops under agroforestry system.

v  Providing information and demonstration of biofuel production technology to entrepreneurs.

v  Conducting on campus and off-campus training programmes to farmers and students on biofuels.

v  Collecting oil seeds from farmers through farmers’ organization.
