National Group Meet

National Group Meet (Rabi 2017) of AICRP on Forage Crops & Utilization
The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore organized National Group Meet (Rabi 2017) of AICRP on Forage Crops & Utilization from 4-5 September, 2017 in collaboration with Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Dr. H.Shivanna, Vice Chancellor presided and inaugurated the workshop and Dr. I.S.Solanki, Assistant Director General (FFC), ICAR, New Delhi, was the guest of honor and Dr. P.Koushal, Joint Director Research, NIBSM, Raipur was the chief guest. Dr. A.K.Roy, Project Coordinator, AICRP on Forage Crops & Utilization, Jhansi, presented the progress report. Dr.Y.G.Shadakshari, Director of Research welcomed while, Dr. C.R.Ravi Shankar, Associate Director of Research, ZARS, V.C. Farm, Mandya, proposed vote of thanks. Dr. H.Shivanna in his inaugural address stressed on the need for augmenting forage production through various means to meet the deficit and greater coordination between SAUs, ICAR and State Department of Animal Husbandry for quality seed production and supply. Dr. I.S.Solanki suggested to evolve root map for forage production to bring down the demand and supply gap and strengthening of scientific community working on Forage crops is required. Dr. P.Koushal highlighted the possibilities of utilizing biotechnological tools for increasing quantity & quality forage production. About 85 delegates from all over India participated. During the group meet, the Variety identification committee identified nine varieties and related Forage production technologies in different forage crops.
