Course duration and Admission procedure: The College of Agriculture, Chamarajanagar is presently offering B.Sc (Hons) Agri. degree programme and duration is four years (eight semesters). The admission procedure has been clearly defined in line with Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) norms. The students has to select PCMB optional subjects in Pre University Course (PUC) and should take common entrance test (CET) conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority, Government of Karnataka. Based on the CET rankings students are selected for pursuing B.Sc (Hons) Agri. and 40 % of seats reserved for the students from farming background. The students will study a set of curriculum which comprises not only theory but also practical’s and field work which help them to acquire knowledge and skills.

Academic Programme and Curriculum: The college of Agriculture, Chamarajanagara is offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Agri. degree programme since its inception, in English Medium. It has followed the academic regulation and course curriculum as prescribed by the UAS (Bangalore) and ICAR. The students admitted to B.Sc. (Hons.) Agri. must complete 22 courses, 183 compulsory credits and must get 6.00 grade point out of 10.00 (OGPA). They study basic and applied courses related to agriculture and also undergo crop production programme in two semesters. Hasiru Dharana is a programme adopted by the University where each student in the first year is responsible for planting and maintaining one plant for four years, and the photograph of the plant with Hasiru Dharana certificate will be issued when the student completes his/her graduation.

Rural Entrepreneurship, Awareness and Development Yojana
The Experiential Learning Program in the 7th semester and the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme in the 8th semester will be conducted to provide practical training and rural agricultural experience to students.
Under the Experiential Learning/ Hands on training (HoT) Programme, students can select the HoT programmes like vermi compost production, mushroom cultivation, seed production and technology, commercial sericulture, production technology for biofertilizers for practical exposure. In the final year, they will be placed in villages under Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programs (RAWEP) for three months as a part course curriculum. In addition to NSS camp in the villages students organise field trips, animal health campaigns and crop seminars. Scientists from Agriculture College and Krishi Vigyan Kendra participate as resource persons during the training programs.

Educational tour: Every year a 15-days academic tour for 3rd year students will be organized to various states of the country. Students will visit Agricultural Universities, National and International research stations and extension institutions to acquire knowledge about the agriculture research and extension activities.

Must be registered but not calculated for CGPA/OCPA Student’s Scholarships: ICAR-NTS scholarships, GOI scholarships, UAS scholarships, Vidhyasiri scholarships from GOK, Student Aid Fund, will be awarded to the meritorious students of the University.

  • Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and other institutions offer Junior Research/Senior Research Fellowships with financial support to the students for higher education.

  • Are eligible for Civil Service Exams like IAS, IPS, IFS and KAS etc…

  • Can work in seed, fertilizer, agricultural and pharmaceutical companies, MNC’s and in Non-Government organizations.

Facilities/amenities for Students:
Student Counselors:
A Professor (counselor) will be allotted five students as a group. He/She will periodically review the academic progress of the students and inform their report to the parents and also to the Dean of the college. They advise all round improvement of the students.

Placement cell: UAS, Bangalore has placement cell which plays a very important role in counselling and guiding the students for their career prospect. To provide employment opportunities to graduate students, placement cell arrange written examinations, group discussion and interview from various companies and NGO’s. The students who have graduated will get the necessary guidance and help if they register the details in the cell.

Infrastructure: In the existing campus, the required infrastructures are being developed to impart quality teaching. The college has 4 classrooms which are well equipped with LCD projectors, CCTV cameras and 3 well equipped laboratories to conduct practical classes. Students also have field visits for their crop development programme.

Computer Lab and Library: The library has 1996 textbooks and 5 periodicals which can be utilized by students and staff. College has computer laboratory with 13 computers for practical training with good internet and database facilities. CERA (Consortium of e-resources in Agriculture) is in use and has the facility to get information on current affairs, statistics and agricultural research papers/books. Further, students and teachers can also utilize the computer and internet facilities available for class preparation and other education related activities.

Hostel Facilities: Separate hostel facilities are established for Boys in KSOU building and for Girls in Krishi Vigyan Kendra campus respectively. Both the hostels are having the facilities of TV room, reading room, gym and also provided with solar hot water, RO drinking water and balanced hygienic nutritious food.

Sports and Cultural Activities: The College not only ensures academic development of the students but also provides them with opportunities to prove themselves by means of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Hence Physical education and NSS is compulsory for all the graduating students. The college magazine provides the students a platform to showcase their talents and capabilities. Along with this students are encouraged to participate in Intercollegiate and national level sports meet and Youth Festival conducted by the University. Sports facilities for Kho Kho, Cricket, Volleyball, Football, Shuttle Badminton, Ball Badminton, Kabaddi and for Table Tennis are provided within the college campus. Under National Service Scheme every year a village is adopted and importance of Green initiation of plants, Swatch Bharath Abhiyan and their implementation will be high lightened to the villagers.

Sports and Cultural Activities

Land Facilities for Practical exposure: Forty-eight acres of land is available for the practical learning of students, in which KVK, All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Sorghum and Cotton and students experimental plots are there. Practical Benefits are available for the students under the guidance of professors, students undergo practical training on various crops like Ragi, Jowar, Redgram, Paddy, Turmeric and other crops.

Extension Activities: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra is functioning as a single window for farmers and extension workers to provide technical information which they need. Scientists of different specialization will conduct on farm testing, frontline demonstrations and regular training programmes for farmers and extension workers.

Research: Research in Sorghum and Cotton is being conducted in the All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Sorghum and Cotton in the KVK premises and research programmes are being conducted to develop high yielding, pest/disease resistance varieties and also other research programmes.
