The Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, V C Farm, Mandya
The Department of Plant Pathology was started during 1991-92 with the main objective of offering Plant Pathology courses to the undergraduate program. The Department offers Plant Pathology courses to Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Diploma (Agri.) programs with equal opportunity to learn the subject both practically and theoretically. The Department is well equipped with instruments required for practical learning, and the laboratories are strengthened to extend the knowledge in different branches of Plant Pathology viz. Virology, Bacteriology, Mycology, and Nematology.
The courses offered by the department for the UG program as per the recommendations of the 5th Dean Committee extend a comprehensive learning opportunity to students and enable them to attend Plant Pathology problems in the field. Postgraduate program in Plant Pathology was started during 2014 and the students are given specific problems of zonal requirements. Major activities of the department apart from teaching & Research include; Diagnostic field visits Disease diagnostic service to the farmer’s and Extension functionaries
Vision
The vision of the department is to strengthen graduate students with skills in Plant Pathology besides hands-on training and provide opportunities to postgraduate students to pursue quality research to cater to crop protection needs for the farming community. The department is striving to upgrade itself as the “Centre of Excellence in Plant Pathology” at the national level in collaboration with the departments viz., Agril. Entomology, Plant Breeding, Crop physiology and Plant biotechnology.
