Achievements
1) Eight district-level ‘Pre- Kharif Technical Campaigns’ were organized on 12.06.2023 in all the seven KVKs under the jurisdiction of UAS-B and EEU, Naganahalli, wherein, 81 exhibition stalls were arranged on the latest agricultural technologies. Nearly 12 quintals of quality seeds and 1.82 quintals of other critical inputs were sold. A total of 1837 farmers participated and got awareness about recent technologies suitable for their districts.
2) The Hon’ble Agriculture Minister Shri N. Chaluvarayaswamy inaugurated the Integrated Agriculture Demonstration model established at the Agricultural Sciences Museum on 03.08.2023. As many as 10,989 people visited the Millets Gallery established at the Museum and benefited
3) On the eve of International Year of Millets, 14 district-level Millet Recipe Competitions were organized during the month of August 2023 in all the Seven KVKs of UAS-B, wherein 837 SHG members participated in displaying 615 millets recipes, which were testimony of creating awareness to 1834 participants about these recipes.
4) National level DAESI Conclave was organized in collaboration with MANAGE, Hyderabad, and KSDA on 18th October 2023 at GKVK Campus, Bangalore to create a platform for the DAESI graduates and to showcase their activities as Para extension professionals. The event was inaugurated by Shri Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka.
5) Shri Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka Inaugurated the Institute of Baking Technology and Value Addition at GKVK campus on 18.10.2023. The institute in collaboration with KIDZ DIGZ, Indoor Play Centre, Melbourne organized an interview on 09.12.2023 wherein six trainees attended the interview for the post of Bakers recruited at Melbourne, Australia.
6) The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore organized Krishimela-2023 from 17th to 20th November at GKVK campus, Bengaluru. There were 720 exhibition stalls exhibiting the latest technologies for the benefit of the farming community. Around 15.67 lakh farmers/students/ general public/extension functionaries visited and Rs.5.2 crores of financial transactions took place in the mela. In addition to this, advisories were provided to 2259 farmers to their queries.
7) ATIC is providing agro-advisory services through e-krishiuasb portal and so far 51,38,906 visitors have viewed the Portal, while 8,907 farmers visited ATIC for their queries. As many as 101 columns have been published and answered 261 questions/problems in ‘RAITHA MITHRA’ column published in Vijayavani Daily Newspaper’. This paper has more than 8 lakh subscriptions in the state which leads to enhancing number of calls received to the call centre
from 1774 to 2524.
8) The sixth edition of the Improved Package of Practices on Agriculture was brought out and PDF form of the package was sent to 2,85,399 farmers and farmers groups through WhatsApp. Further, every week, problem-oriented state-level online training programs for ATMA staff and progressive farmers were started from 16.06.2023, and till today 34 programs were conducted for 1,02,000 participants
9) In Total, 1920 DAESI candidates have undergone DAESI courses during the year 2023-24. About 38 percent of them enrolled for renewal of Input dealership license and 72 percent of input dealers have started new ventures and agribusiness
10) All the seven KVKs under UAS-B have conducted 40 On-farm tests in an area of 50.5 ha. covering 252 farmers. Out of which, 9 OFT technologies were standardized and 4 technologies were upgraded to FLDs, and one FLD technology (Apical rooted potato sapling for potato
seed tuber production) was included on the POP 11) All the seven KVKs under UAS-B have conducted 141 Front Line Demonstrations in an area of 340.5 ha. covering 1291 farmers. As a result, over the years, 109 new technologies have been spread in 19,338 ha. area covering 30,363 farmers producing additional yield of 255620 q (15.80 %) worth of Rs. 583138072/- these accounts to an increase in income of Rs. 30,155/ ha./ farmer in the covered districts.
12) A total of 2285 soil and 1392 water samples were analyzed out of which, 1846 farmers adopted soil test-based fertilizers application in an area of 3543 acres which helped to supply nutrients in a balanced way for increasing additional 16,840 q of produce (14.37 %) worth Rs. 27,059,961. This estimate accounts for an increase in income of Rs. 7636.56/acre/ farmers.
13) A total of 364.13 quintals of Seeds, 159322 seedlings 57.37 quintals of micronutrients, and 2087.5 litre of bioagents were produced and sold through KVKs and ATIC to the farmers. With this initiation, 5,394 ha. of the area has been brought under cultivation by covering 9,274 farmers by providing quality planting material and other inputs.
14) The Units/KVKs conducted 704 training programs in agriculture and allied subjects and trained 20,547 farmers/farm women / rural youth and 18013 extension functionaries of line departments / NGOs. This enhanced their overall knowledge level on agriculture from 31.50 to 51.75 percent. Further, it helped the field functionaries to organize the outreach activities much more effectively and professionally.
15) The ICAR, KVKs/EEU/FTI together have organized 12 skill-oriented training (under STRY/ SDC/ EDP) programs of six days duration for 190 rural youth. As a result of training, 45 entrepreneurs emerged and 17,765 man-days employment were created and they earned an income ranging from 3.69 to 4.55 lakhs/year.
16) The Directorate organized 30 training programs of six days duration to 892 Krishi Sakhi’s under Sanjeevini – KSRLPS, GoK. So for they have provided 17805 advisories to farm women and conducted 561 training programmes, 468 awareness programmes, established 428 Nutri-gardens, and conducted 303 demonstrations. This led to 15.95 % enhanced knowledge of 428 families that helped to increase agricultural production (5.4 %), nutritional security
and farm income of Rs. 3778/ head.
17) Institute of Baking Technology and Value addition (IBT&VA) organized 55 long and short-duration courses for 1105 participants, out of which 33 have established small & medium scale bakeries, 45 have focussed on home baking, 42 have established small-scale value addition & processing units and 35 have been absorbed by various food industries. About 190 tons of bakery and other value-added products were produced from the institute with a turnover of Rs. 894 lakhs.
18) District Agro Met Units (DAMU) established at ICAR-KVK, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagara provided weather forecast and weather based agro advisories to the farmers through 419 WhatsApp groups sending 1094 messages to 81885 farmers and provided 813 Agro met advisory services to 319227 farmers apart from other extension activities. As a result, farmers preponed and/or postponed the farming practices in 2,54,544.45 ha like sowing different crops (104257.2 ha), fertilizer application (11032.8 ha), pesticide application (14113.75 ha.), horticultural production practices (62233.7 ha.), harvesting and threshing operations (62021 ha.), room temperature maintenance in silkworm rearing – 886 ha and animal husbandry practices (reduced10-15 % heat stress in cattle, poultry 15-20 %, animal disease 11-17%). This helped them to generate Rs.137.37 crores for the farming community (Ramanagara – Rs.17,40,30,000, Tumakuru – Rs.48,00,93,455, Mandya – Rs .32,06,21,719 and Chamarajanagara – Rs.39,90,32,280).
19) All seven KVKs have adopted one village under the Village adoption program for overall agricultural development. The programs such as animal health camps (06), human health camps (01), soil health camps (01), training programs (66), method demonstrations (32), field visits (187), field days (02), exposure visit (6), important events (5), 24 WhatsApp groups sending 465 messages to 2014 farmers were undertaken in adopted villages. As a
result, 72 technologies were adopted by the 1110 farmers in a 551 ha. area which helped to reduce the pest and disease incidence and enhanced the additional yield of 2,583 q that resulted in an increased income of Rs. 9,964/household worth of Rs. 11,649,367/- in the adopted village.
20) The Scientists of KVKs/Units served as resource persons in 965 training programs and conducted 273 group discussion meetings, 87 diagnostic field visits, 318 field problems, 53 advance lesson plans, 30 Bi-monthly technical workshops, 459 method demonstrations, 77 field days, 1397 field visits, 07 workshops, 89 exposure visits, 12 Animal/ Soil /Human health campus, 47 exhibitions, 27 video conference and 201 RSK visits. About 30 press visits, 76
press releases, 933 press coverage, five press conferences, 53 special articles, 14 popular success stories, 78 TV & Radio programmes were given. In addition, they provided consultancy services to 57171 farmers, and 116 short messages were sent to 481537 farmers by all the KVKs. A total of 922 WhatsApp messages and Facebook messages were sent to 4,75,406 farmers. Through these platforms, awareness was created among farmers, farm women and rural youth about the latest cutting-edge technologies resulting in an increased overall knowledge level of participants from 30.56 to 56.25 per cent.
21) Under the Distance Education Unit, five courses (two diploma and three certificate courses) were offered for the benefit of 212 candidates. These courses provide the required scientific knowledge and skills for the candidates to adopt on their farm and establish IFS, organic farming, Honey bee rearing, and seed production enterprises on their own fields which enhanced their yield and income up to 16 to 17 percent.
22) The KVK scientists played a key role during the drought survey by the central surveillance team in 10 districts of Southern Karnataka analyzing scientific evidence such as poor germination, stunted growth, and less number of tillers per plant for crop loss.
