Department of Forestry and Environmental Sciences offers three courses for B.Sc (Hons) Agri., two PG courses and one course to Diploma (Agri.) program. The courses focus on the Forestry and Environmental aspects on Agro-forestry system, silvicultural practices, basic concepts of environmental science including conservation of biodiversity, ecosystem, natural resources and sustainable development. The diversification of farming system initiates an agro-ecological succession. Agro-forestry meets the economic productivity and probability of farmers and livelihood needs. The department is involved in imparting skills to students in development and demonstration of methodologies related to Forestry and Environmental Science discipline such as Soil, Water and biodiversity mangement, management of erosion, disaster management methodology, Renewable Energy and Green technology applications in Agriculture. The combination of agriculture and forestry has multiple benefits such as enhanced yields from staple food crops, enhanced farmer livelihood from income generation. The basic vision is to impart Forestry and Environmental Science theories and practicals to agricultural graduates to build human resource for making Indian agriculture sustainable, profitable and a competitive enterprise.

Faculty Profile:

Dr. J Mahadeva, Assistant Professor M.Sc., Ph.D and Post Doc in Environmental Science, University of Mysore. He has 8 years of experience in teaching, research, extension and other developmental activities. He served as a member of advisory committee for both PG and Ph.D students. He has expertise in Soil and Water Conservation activities, Hydrology, Limnology, Biodiversity conservation, Phytology, Agro-forestry and Silviculture. He has published a total number of 43 research papers in various national and international peer reviewed research journals and 46 abstracts and 3 chapters’ contribution in books. He has handled a DR project from UASB on Botanical Arboretum. He was awarded as Year of the Environmentalist in the year 2012 and 2015. He has secured Best oral presentation in Vellore Engineering College on the occasion of International Conference on  He is also serving as Board of Studies member to the University of Mysore (Yuvaraja College, JSS University, University of Mandya). He is a life member of National Environmental Science Academy and Indian Science Congress. He conducts coaching classes for IAS, Banking and Railways, KPSC competitive examinations
