  1. Kick-off programme of Indo-German Collaborative Research Project (Phase-II)

The Kick-off programme of Indo-German Collaborative Research Project (Phase-II) was held on 19th April 2021 at the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. The Collaborative Research Project titled “The Rural–Urban Interface of Bangalore: A Space of Transitions in Agriculture, Economics and Society” is a continuation of Phase-I Started in the year 2016 with the Universities of Kassel and Gottingen, Germany. Dr. Y. G. Shadakshari, Director of Research welcomed all the participants.  Dr. K. B. Umesh, Coordinator of the Indo-German Project presented a brief note on the outcome of Phase-I and details of Phase-II project.  Dr. Sundeep Sarin, Advisor & Head, International Division, Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi highlighted the importance of collaborative research project. Dr. Matthias Kiesselbach, Director, DFG, New Delhi in his address, spoke on the Indo-German research collaboration. Mr. Karl Ehlerding, Deputy Consul General, German Consulate, Bangalore highlighted the impact of climate change on agriculture and the need for a road map or strategies to overcome it.  Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore in his presidential remarks reoriented the importance of the Indo-German collaborative project and its implications. Further, he suggested considering the impact of COVID-19 on agriculture, human diets and also understanding the implications of the amendments brought in farm bills. The online kick-off programme was attended by around 80 participants. The participants included Indian project partners, German counterparts, officials of DBT, DFG, Consul General, German Consulate Bangalore, research staff.

2. Organised a visit for the newly appointed Deputy Consulate General (Mr. Friedrich Birgelen) at German Consulate in Bengaluru visited the on-site experimental field on the GKVK campus on 6th September 2021. Dr. K. B. Umesh, Coordinator of Indo-German Project welcomed the guest and Dr. Andreas Burkert explained in detail about the on-site field experimentation.

  1. Ist half Yearly Review Meeting

Organized the first half-yearly review meeting of the Indo-German Collaborative Research Project on 24-09-2021 at the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. In this meeting, the physical and financial progress of all the subprojects were reviewed and future plan of work was also discussed. The proceedings of this meeting were sent to all the PIs, Co-PIs and research staff of the Indo-German project. About 35 members of the Indo-German project were presented in the meeting.
