Department of Agricultural Entomology offers four courses to B.Sc (Hons) Agri., ten courses including core and minor courses to post graduate students admitted to the Agricultural Entomology Department and four courses to Diploma (Agri.) programme. Entomology refers to the study of insects and Agricultural Entomology is dedicated to the study of insects of interest in agriculture. The course curriculum mainly focuses on the basics and applied aspects of agricultural entomology. The basic study of entomology imparts knowledge on the morphology, taxonomy, anatomy and physiology of insects. Apart, helps the students to understand the diversity in insects and explore the reasons for the dominance on Earth. The applied aspects of the study ascertain knowledge on the ecology of the insects and hone skill to design proper management practices for injurious insects and conservation of beneficial insects. The basic vision of the department of Agricultural Entomology is to impart theoretical and practical knowledge on the courses offered by the department to agricultural graduates and creating awareness on the economic importance of the insects and their role in food security to meet the demands of growing population.

Besides, the Department of Agricultural Entomology is also involved in conducting classes for the candidates enrolled in Diploma Agricultural Extension  Services for Input dealers (DAESI) implemented by the MANAGE through State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institutes (SAMETIs).

Dr. G. Sugeetha is serving as an Assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Entomology, College of Agriculture, VC Farm, Mandya. She completed her Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Ph. D in the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. She has 8 years of experience in teaching, research, extension and other developmental activities. She has guided one student as chairman and served as a member in Advisory committee for Post Graduate students. She is specialized in Acarology, Insecticide toxicology and integrated pest management.  She has published a total number of 15 research papers in various national and international peer reviewed research journals, 10 abstracts, 1 chapter contribution in a book and several popular articles.
